More studio closures affect the game industry. This latest comes from the VR department, as Ready at Dawn, the California-based studio, sees their doors closed. Ready at Dawn, perhaps best known for their 2015 PlayStation 4 exclusive The Order: 1886, saw management changes towards the end of 2017, before they were acquired by Oculus Studios in 2020. The Order 1886 was seen as "mixed" by reviewers and fans, as its high production values warranted great praise, found the story fairly mediocre and rather short.
In 2017, they developed Lone Echo, a VR adventure game which had a an online multiplayer spinoff Echo Arena. Lone Echo garnered positive feedback from critics, and saw a sequel, Lone Echo II in 2021. By 2023, Echo Arena was shut down, with the news being at the time for ready at Dawn to focus on their next project. Unfortunately in April 2023, layoffs saw a third of their development team cut.
