Tony Hawk Pro Skater Remastered Is Coming

I don't think there wasn't a kid in the 90's who didn't know who Tony Hawk was. He was every where during that time.

He was even popular enough to have his own video game. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was released on the PS1 in 1999, the height of the "extreme sports" phase. I don't think anybody, from that era of gaming, has not, in some form, played this game. The original Pro Skater was massively successful, so much so that we got Pro Skater 2 in 2000. In fact, every year of the 2000's we got a new Tony Hawk game. The novelty wore out very quickly.

It has now been 5 years since the last Tony Hawk game, 2015's Tony Hawk 5 was released for the PS4 and X1 to abysmal reviews. And that was it, we got mobile game, but that was it for the core Tony Hawk series.

We did get remake in 2012. Pro Skater HD came out for the 360 and PS3. It was a weird mix of Pro Skater 1 and 2. Later it was announced that Pro Skater 3 was going to be DLC for the HD remake. It received mixed reviews and sits at a 66/100 on Metacritic.

Today though, the publisher Activision announced that there is going to be a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remastered Collection, and it's going to be released this year. Sept 4th to be exact for PS4, PC, and X1. It's going to be developed by Vicarious Visions who did the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Little side note, they also did the ports on the Gameboy back in the day. So.. the more you know.

The collection is going to include all of the original levels, pro skaters, and tricks from the first two games, as well as all of the tricks from the later games.

It's also going to have a large majority of the original sound track. With Vicarious Visions noting that "only a small handful of songs didn't make it in".

The roster is going to include; Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, Steve Caballero, Geoff Rowley, Andrew Reynolds, Elissa Steamer, Chad Muska, Eric Koston, Rodney Mullen, Rune Glifberg, Kareem Campbell, Jamie Thomas, and Bob Burnquist. I am noticing a lack of Bam Margera on this list... I know he has had issues in the past, but at the time of this writing, and with the current information I could find on him. He has been keeping clean. Hopefully we will get him as DLC in the future.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 is going to cost $39.99 for the regular version, $49.99 for the digital deluxe - which will include "unique content and in-game gear". A collectors edition is also being released for $99.99 and that will come with everything the digital deluxe version has and a limited-run "Birdhouse deck". If you pre-order digitally you will also gain access to a demo before release that will have the warehouse level from the original game.

It has also been confirmed by Vicarious Visions that there will be post launch support, but didn't go into details.

I am excited for this remaster. It looks amazing, and if it's anything like the original games. It's going to plan amazing also.
