More turmoil surrounds publisher/developer Ubisoft in 2024. On December 3rd, it was announced that the Assassin's Creed producer will begin the process of sunsetting their online multiplayer first person shooter XDefiant. Player registrations, new purchases, and downloads will not be available as of this writing, based on their social media post, along with a personal message from Mark Rubin, XDefiant's executive producer.
Season 3 will still launch. The servers will remain active, and the game will be fully playable until June 3rd, 2025. For those who purchased the Ultimate Founders Pack, you will receive a full refund. Players who made any purchases within the last 30 days will also be fully refunded. Please note that processing these refunds will take up to 8 weeks.

Just six months after its launch, it was once viewed as a competitor to Activision's Call of Duty series. By late August, following massive layoffs within Ubisoft, XDefiant saw its player base dwindle rapidly, as reception to the game was met with underwhelming feedback. As mentioned when we initially reported on the decline of public interest, XDefiant hits an already crowded market, so a result like this is becoming more common. The monumental success of the recently released Black Ops 6 makes a piece of software like XDefiant a totaling of sums from Ubisoft's mistakes.
The lesson that isn't learned; chasing trends is fruitless, you have to be an innovator in a field. The sins of Ubisoft refusing to adapt in today's gaming environment is coming back to haunt them ten fold.
