UbiSoft Officially Cancels Splinter Cell VR And Ghost Recon Frontline

If anyone has been anticipating a number of upcoming projects from UbiSoft, that has been dashed aside, as the company decided to shelve four projects. During an earnings call, company CEO Yves Guillemot stated that as a means of reducing production costs, according to a report from GamesRadar. After several years of development, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell VR, and two unannounced games have been scrapped.

Ghost Recon, upon its reveal trailer, was received very poorly from the community. As of this writing, the trailer on YouTube has amassed close to 10k likes and over 38k dislikes over 640,876 total views. There weren't a lot of details about Splinter Cell VR, other than it was going to be exclusive to Meta headsets.

If there's any good news, the Splinter Cell full remake, which was announced back in December 2021 and being developed by UbiSoft Toronto, is still in the works. Itsvan Tajnay, UbiSoft Toronto directing manager, spoke about how the fans may receive this effort of restoring a popular IP.

"We know how high the expectations of the fans are for us to modernize the brand while making absolutely sure we don't lose any of its essence; we want to make sure that Splinter Cell fans really love it."

No release date is determined, of how far along the project is, but UbiSoft has held this one close to their chest. The Prince of Persia remake has shifted around to the studio's development teams, and Beyond Good And Evil 2 seems dead on arrival until further notice. These cancellations don't bode well for a company that still faces allegations and sexual misconduct scandals.
