We May Just Be Getting A Diablo 2 Remaster

This rumor has been going around for years now. I have been covering Blizzcon for Game Fix for about 4 years now, and every single year I reported on the "Diablo 2 Remaster leak". Every single year Blizzcon comes and goes with no mention of this.

This year could be different though.

Yesterday, gamesindustry.biz reported that Blizzard Entertainment has absorbed the Activision Studio Vicarious Visions into its fold. This studio, besides being one of Activision's best studios, was responsible for the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and the amazing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 remake.

According to news sources, Vicarious Visions has actually been working with Blizzard Entertainment for the last year.

What does this mean?

We know that there was a planned Diablo 2 remake set to be in development. It was supposed to be created by Blizzard Team 1. Blizzard Team 1 worked on Heroes of the Storm, Starcraft 2, and were the lead development team behind last years Warcraft III: Reforged

The Warcraft 3 remaster failed, in so many ways. Blizzard not wanting to make the same mistake twice, pulled the Diablo 2 project from them. Not only did they pull the project from them, they also broke the team up, with some members going to other projects, and others just leaving the company altogether.

With Diablo 2 not having a development team any more. They ended up giving the project to the Diablo 4 team with Vicarious Vision also contributing to the project.

It is now known as Diablo II: Resurrected and it's rumored to be in the hands of Vicarious Visions.

I feel a lot better with this knowledge now. VV is a great studio, and while I'm a little angry that they are basically a side studio for Blizzard now, it's great to see them working on a game to the scale and caliber of Diablo 2

As always, this has been James with Game Fix. Game on everybody!
