Xbox States New Obsidian RPG 'Avowed' Will Light Delay To Early 2025

Xbox: "...We're giving players' backlogs some breathing room."

The Xbox platform may have seen a lean 2022 and 2023, due to the bulky financial acquisition of Activision Blizzard and corporate restructuring (which also saw a ton of layoffs and studio closures). Some strong presentations during Summer Game Fest and their own Xbox Games Showcase boasts some strong first party software making its way to platforms this 2024 holiday season. Avowed, however, will miss that boat. But for a reasonable cause.

Xbox officially confirms that Avowed's release date will be pushed back to February 18th, 2025. This move designed to free up some space for Xbox's rather heavy Fall 2024 lineup, which includes Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

So many games coming! As such, we're moving Avowed to Feb 18, 2025 to give players’ backlogs some breathing room. Stay tuned for more from our games across Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda & Xbox Game Studios at gamescom, including our Aug 23 livestream for a look at Avowed

Obsidian was a purchase by Xbox in 2018, the studio has been responsible for the spacefaring RPG The Outer Worlds, the survival game Grounded, and the adventure game Pentiment. their work on Fallout: New Vegas cemented the California-based studio as prominent world builders and story tellers.
