Capcom's final tournament of the Pro Tour season begins this weekend, bringing together the best Street Fighter V competitors from around the world in this week-long event to declare a new Capcom Cup champion. Featuring past champions like iDom, Kawano, Punk, and MenaRD with a new generation of Street Fighter players such as ChrisCCH, The4Philzz, and DCQ, this will also be the last major event for Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.

Fans generally anticipate new information and trailers following the Grand Finals, and with great enthusiasm for Street Fighter 6, it was expected. However, Capcom has announced in a statement beforehand that there will be no Street Fighter 6 news at the end of the tournament.  

"Congratulations to all the players who fought hard this year to make it on stage at the Capcom Cup finals! As everyone will be focusing on the hard-hitting action at the finals, we wanted to give a heads up that there will be no new Street Fighter 6 announcements during the event.

"However, we will be sharing some big news regarding the 2023 season of Capcom Pro Tour and the next round of exciting Street Fighter 6 news will be hitting in the not too distant future. Stay tuned!"

This is likely to ensure that the primary focus remains on Street Fighter V's final tournament and the participants who have worked hard to reach this showcase. After a very rocky launch, Street Fighter V and its various incarnations have seen it become a solid success for Capcom, mostly due to strong tournament showings and renewed confidence in the direction of the series.

It's closing in on a year since Street Fighter 6's first reveal trailer, and the community is very much looking forward to the new vision for the franchise and its approach to intuitive gameplay mechanics, such as the new "Drive" system, and the immersive single player "World Tour" mode. Street Fighter 6 looks to have a lot for both pro players and casual fans.

Caocom Cup begins February 12, with last chance qualifiers beginning later this afternoon. The event will be streamed on YouTube and Twitch.
