DC's New Original Anime, Suicide Squad ISEKAI, Is Currently In Development

The Suicide Squad now have a new mission that's quite literally out of this world. That's a lame pun AND 100% accurate, as DC has announced a new project in the works starring their misfit antihero team. In this brief trailer, Joker and Hatley Quinn are showcased, along with Amanda Waller, as the ragtag group of villains find themselves transported to...somewhere.

Isekai (which translates to "otherworld" or "different world") has popularly become a sub-genre in anime wherein the protagonist or protagonists are transported to an alternate realm or time by various means. Very ubiquitous nowadays in series such as Sword Art Online, Inuyasha, Mushoko Tensei and Re:Zero, the format has been a staple of anime for nearly 40 years, seemingly first presented in television with 1983's Aura Battler Dunbine.

Animation will be handled by WIT Studios. The production team has produced high quality anime such as Spy X Family, the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, and Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage. Suicide Squad ISEKAI's director will be Eri Osada (Ensemble Stars!, Strike Witches), who has a history of working with western intellectual properties like the anime adaptation of Supernatural.

Currently in development, Suicide Squad doesn't have a release date, but it's almost certain to have an international release. The trailer does have English subtitles. More information on this one as more details are revealed.
