The stories circling around who could be the next big studio acquisition remain paramount. Many are rumors and speculation, but with little concrete information to verify beyond a formal announcement. A certifiable source, however, may provide information that could see Elden Ring developer FromSoftware being purchased by Sony, as reported by Dualshockers. These rumors about FromSoft have made the rounds before, so the information should be taken with a grain of salt.

Game analyst and owner of Kantan Games Inc. Dr. Serkan Toto made a lengthy thread about the history of FromSoftware and its ties to various endeavors, which includes pig-feeding management programs, to their first video game (King's Field for the PlayStation) in 1994, and a joint venture with strongly conservative newspaper Sankei Shimbun in 2007. Toto also speaks about how at the time, FromSoftware's net worth was considered very undervalued at below $30 million(US) in 2014.

The talks of FromSoftware's potential acquisition remains strong speculation, but it would no doubt be a pretty big deal for Sony, who have stated they aren't finished with big name purchases yet. FromSoftware's parent company is Kadokawa Corporation, a multimedia conglomerate who owns 80% of shares in the studio, so they aren't necessarily independent. The offer would have to be very enticing to pry them away from Kadokawa, especially since Elden Ring remains a very hot commodity with its record-breaking sales, and the SoulsBorne-style of game design is growing into a more common formality with Dark Souls' popularity. 

Mind you, none of this is confirmation of any verifiable information that FromSoftware is on the bidding table. Can I get a new Armored Core game, however?
