Introducing The New Power-ups In Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be the first side-scrolling Mario game since 2012's New Super Mario Bros, for the Wii U. Recently, Nintendo held a Treehouse Live event, where the hosts went over the first couple of levels of the newest entry in the series. What can be expected from the latest adventure featuring Mario and his pals?

Wonder takes place in the Flower Kingdom, far off from the Mushroom Kingdom (I would want to see a definitive world map of this realm). Mario and his friends are invited by Prince Florian, until the Great Demon King Bowser appears, coveting the power of the Wonder Flower. Upon touching it, the flower merges with his castle, and with its force, causes great disasters across the land.

The Playable Characters:

The current roster in Wonder consists of 12 characters:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Princess Peach
  • Princess Daisy
  • Yellow Pinocchio
  • Blue Pinocchio
  • Kinopiko
  • Yoshi
  • Red Yoshi
  • Yellow Yoshi
  • Mizuiro Yoshi
  • Totten

Yoshi and Totten don't take damage, and also don't transform upon obtaining powers.

New Transformations:

Foxtail

Conjure bubbles from your hands and trap enemies. While enemies are trapped, they can also be used as platforms to traverse.

Drill Cap

By turning your hat into a drill, this makes it easy to defeat upside-down enemies. You can also plunge and navigate through the ground and ceiling. This makes for a viable offensive and defensive power-up.

The Wonder Flower

Wonder Seeds are required to clear courses on the world map. Grabbing Wonder Flowers can cause various things to happen to the environment, along with Mario and his friends. The effects include:

  • The pipe begins to move. It seems that you can move on top of the clay pipe
  • Hordes of enemies spawn
  • Terrain slopes. A round iron ball rolls depending on the tilt
  • skydiving begins
  • The screen fills with bubbles. When you ride on the millet, it bounces
  • Perspective changes. You can freely move Mario and others from a top view point of view
  • can spacewalk
  • Transform into Goomba
  • Transform into a spiky ball
  • inflate like a balloon

Super Mario Wonder will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch October 20th.
