Earlier this year, PlayStation restructured PlayStation Plus by combining the PSNow service with the standard Plus membership, creating PSPlus tiers; Essential, Extra, and Premium. Initially, if you already had the standard membership, you'd get the same bonuses with no change in the tier you were paying for.
That's set to change, as with the announcement of September's free games, Sony also included a price change that will hit all three tiers for the yearly memberships. This price increase will be over 30%, and this will go into effect September 6th. The new prices are as such:
PlayStation Plus Essential Yearly Membership
79.99 USD | 71,99 Euro | 59.99 GBP | 6,800 Yen
PlayStation Plus Extra Yearly Membership
134.99 USD | 125,99 Euro | 99.99 GBP | 11,700 Yen
PlayStation Plus Premium Yearly Membership
159.99 USD | 151,99 Euro | 119.99 GBP | 13,900 Yen
For frequent online players, the yearly membership was a pretty decent bargain under the previous price, you essentially paid the price of a game and was covered for a lengthy period. The free games are a quality bonus. Does this funnel players back into paying the short-term lower monthly prices? Paying for one month roughly adds up to more than the previous standard fee. Quite an interesting couple of months of decisions from Sony here.
