Splatoon 3 will be rolling out new single player content in the form of this roguelite campaign mode. In Side Order, you play as a resident Octoling of Inkopolis named Agent 8. You wake up in a world of order, where the color spectrum is reduced to uniform shades of white. Assisted by a drone that's claiming to be Pearl, the former host of Off the Hook from Splatoon 2, you must figure out how to bring color back to the world by conquering the Spire of Order.
As explained in the trailer, each floor contains a series of varying objectives that get harder as you climb higher. Some objectives include defeating enemies, controlling areas for a set amount of time, and completing skill-based missions. By equipping color chips, you can customize your loadout to increase your firing speed and damage output.
The single player content in each Splatoon game has seen a fascinating evolution over the years. The development team seems to enjoy experimenting with tinkering with the multiplayer mechanics of Splatoon's weapons, control scheme, and play style to suit the meta of a solo adventure. Continuing to flesh out the lore of this universe really cements this franchise as something that's becoming incredibly charming.
Exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass Side Order launches February 22nd, 2024.
