Nearly one month into Street Fighter 6, the game has been a rousing success for Capcom and widely accepted by the public, as it's hit the 1 million player count just one week after its launch. Both casual and pro players alike have found that Street Fighter 6's play style and features have something to offer for everyone.
Specifically speaking of the tournament scene, SF6's presence is kicking off very well when it comes to its entrant count at the Evolution Championship Series, colloquially known as EVO. According to EventHubs, while the official numbers aren't available, the participant count has bypassed the previous record.

The previous record was set by Street Fighter V in 2016 with 5056 entrees, so SF6 has surpassed this milestone. With two weeks remaining for sign-ups, this number could easily grow. The unfortunate matter, with this many participants, it means that many of the players in the pools (mini-tournaments that are narrow the field down to winners and losers brackets) will not make it to the EVO live stream.
Fighting games and professional fighting game players lag behind other genre's more popular competitive players, exposure gets tough to come by, as fighting games continue to break through that niche appeal. Street Fighter 6 in its first month has done a lot that its predecessor Street Fighter V out the gate.
High numbers, but not a guarantee that all participants will show. Depending on scheduling, players can miss pool matches by sleeping in. Registration for EVO closes July 8th, and the official tournament will run from August 4-6 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Street Fighter 6 is currently available for the PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
