Street Fighter V Summer Update: Final Character Luke Revealed

The producers at Capcom announced last year that this upcoming season will be Street Fighter V's last, and the official reveals for the remaining fighters are rolled out. This last impromptu season was put together after the departure of former Capcom designer and Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono, who stepped down last August after reported disagreements over the direction of Street Fighter 6 and refusing to accept a demotion in the company.

Street Fighter V director Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto kicked off the festivities with Oro, the 140 year old hermit who debuted in Street Fighter III: A New Generation.

For his V-system skills, Oro’s V-Skill I is called “Onibi,” which summons a bouncing orb projectile that can bounce at three different trajectories.

Oro’s V-Skill II is “Minomushi,” that has Oro executing a short hop that has two different follow-up attacks: “Kaki Otoshi,” an overhead attack or “Eda Uchi,” a safer on block kick.

Here's Oro vs Oro for some gameplay samples:

Next is Akira Kazama, a high school student skilled in Bajiquan, and the first character from the Rival Schools series to make an appearance as a playable character in Street Fighter. Rival Schools was a 3D fighting game originally released in 1997 and ported to the PlayStation in 1998. Akira is a very enigmatic young girl who can be fierce and intimidating when donned in her biker gear, but is a very timid and quiet person when out of it. While she may be icy, she is shown to be enthusiastic when helping out fellow Gedo high school classmates like Hinata and Boman.

Her V-Skill I “Kiko Rensei,” enhances her “Kiko Kai” by adding more hits and damage to the attack

Her V-Skill II is called “Tsutenda,” where Akira will launch her opponents into the air allowing for follow up attacks, called “Air Bursts.” It's too bad this feature from Rival Schools is locked behind a V-skill, but I digress, it's still very cool to see.

Here's some gameplay footage of Akira in action showcasing her abilities:

Both Oro and Akira will be available August 16.

And the final character could be a look into what Street Fighter 6 has to offer, and the reaction across the fighting game community has been...polarizing, to say the least. Meet Luke, a character that, according to director Nakayama, will "pay homage to the past, present, and future of Street Fighter".

His fighting style looking very inspired by mixed martial arts and the tech looks very strong. And he will be released this November.
