40 Minute Mission Gameplay Of Level-5's Decapolice Hosted At The Tokyo Game Show 2023

Japanese studio Level-5 has quite the robust line-up of games to feature at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Back at work with creating new software, their showcase includes Fantasy Life: The Girl Who Steals Time, Megaton Mushashi: Wired, Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road, and a new Professor Layton, The New World of Steam.

The development team's newest IP, Decapolice, a crime suspense RPG, received a gameplay showcase for the live attendees with 40 minutes of mission gameplay. This gives fans the first look at how Decapolice will function. This can be viewed below.

The main character, a rookie detective named Harvard, hunts down criminals in a huge open-world crime-ridden city, travelling back and forth between physical and virtual reality.
Look forward to a mysterious detective story with investigations in virtual space.

The virtual world mechanic looks pretty fascinating, while many of Decapolice's battle system, mission/quest engagement, and interactions with your allies follow a traditional role-playing game format. Follow waypoints, engage with civilians and your coworkers to progress the story.

With no subtitles or translations, it's difficult to get a read on how the battle system, functions, but it bears a similarity to Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel ability to move within range of attacks, with a blend of break mechanics seen in the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series with their use of Press/Turn. Mere observation on my part, as we await more hearty details in the coming weeks.

Decapolice is scheduled to be released later this year for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
