Back 4 Blood Studio Turtle Rock Becomes A Part Of Tencent

Tencent of China is continuing to acquire more names outside of China, and Turtle Rock is the latest purchase by the multinational technology brand. Turtle Rock gained notoriety for their release Left 4 Dead in 2008 under their working tenure with Valve. After reestablishing themselves in 2011 now under the name Turtle Rock, the studio provides consulting service to game development, like assisting with work on the Counterstrike series along with producing their own original titles, such as 2014's 4-v-1 asymmetrical team shooter Evolve

There's no details regarding on the price it was sold for, but according to a statement released on their official site, Turtle Rock will remain independently ran by Phil Robb and Chris Ashton, the co-founders.

"We are growing our team to support Back 4 Blood and develop new exciting multiplayer experiences. We will continue to transparently communicate with you all, provide updates on all our progress through our Trello board and expand upon what makes Back 4 Blood so special. Additionally, we get to do something we have never done before as a studio: turn a universe we created into a true long-standing AAA franchise. We can now ensure that the Back 4 Blood franchise is here to stay and we will be working on it well into the future."

In recent years, Tencent has been working hard at acquiring studios and ventures into entertainment across the globe, including Valhalla Game Studios, which was started by former Tecmo employees (including the rather infamous Tomonobu Itagaki), and the UK's Sumo Group. Their name may be becoming more recognizable in the entertainment industry, perhaps not in overwhelming influence, but in terms of presence.
