In a shake-up of content management, Disney chief financial adviser Christine McCarthy has stated they are going to be reviewing product and making reevaluations across the streaming services, according to a report from Deadline. Built on digitally distributing major acquisitions like Star Wars, The Simpsons, and 21st Century Fox properties since its launch in 2019.
However, following an earnings call, it was revealed that Disney+ saw a subscriber loss of 2.4 million toward the final quarter of 2022. These subscriber losses are in Asia and India regions, as Disney+ Hotstar (as it's branded) recently lost the streaming rights for Indian Premier League Cricket games. As a matter of cost-cutting, Disney will be culling a few dozen series, movies, and specials from D+ and Hulu.
"We are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation," McCarthy told Deadline.
