Experience The Speedrunning Challenge Of The Nintendo World Championships On The Nintendo Switch

Held and launched in the 1990's, the Nintendo World Championships was collaboration of specially designed versions of Nintendo games for competitors to meet certain goals in the best possible time. Now fans old and new alike will have a chance to partake in the white knuckle adrenaline rush on their home console.

The Nintendo World Championships NES Edition compiles over 150 speedrun challenges from 13 Nintendo Entertainment System classics. You can set personal records and challenge your best, or up to eight players can compete against each other locally in Party Mode. Nintendo Switch Online Service members can submit their best scores to online weekly leaderboards.

The 13 games featured are:

  • Balloon Fight

  • Donkey Kong

  • Excitebike

  • Ice Climber

  • Kid Icarus

  • Kirby’s Adventure

  • Metroid

  • Super Mario Bros.

  • Super Mario Bros. 2

  • Super Mario Bros. 3

  • Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels

  • The Legend of Zelda

  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

As someone that was a fan of the NES Remix games on the Wii U, this is a neat idea to bring back. The digital cost is $29.99USD, and a physical special edition that runs for $59.99 (includes game card, a gold replica Nintendo World Championships cartridge, 13 art cards, and a 5-piece pin set). It's fairly pricey, but not too bad for what comes with. The original Nintendo Switch may have finally showed its age about two years ago, but a release like this a cool blast from the past, with a modern twist.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition hits the Nintendo Switch July 18th, 2024.
