Free Games Update | Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Releases Some Classics From Rare

A part of the Nintendo Direct Partners Showcase, some offerings for the Nintendo Switch Online Service + Expansion Pack this month comes courtesy of the Xbox-owned studio Rare. Known throughout their relationship with Nintendo over the decades, some classics from the NES, SNES, and the Nintendo 64 are made available to NSO subscribers.

For the Nintendo Entertainment System, the combat racer R.C Pro-Am and the platform puzzler Snake Rattle & Roll. For the Super Nintendo Catalog, break out some Ultra Combos in the tournament fighter Killer Instinct. And join Pimple and Rash in the bashing of baddies in Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. And finally for the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pack, the explosive destruction puzzle title Blast Corps.

These games are available to play NOW (Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership required for some software access).

NES

R.C. Pro Am - Featured here on the Retro Reboot review editorial, utilize radio-controlled cars/trucks to race around tracks, place in the top, and power up your vehicle with regular upgrades. Take advantage of offensive and defensive deterrents like missiles and oil slicks to send opposing racers careening off-course to stay ahead of the competition. Original release date: February 1988   

Snake Rattle & Roll -  In this isometric platform game, you take control of a snake and must eat enough Nibbley Pibbleys to put on enough weight to ring a bell on a scale. Get heavy enough to clear the requirements and proceed to the next stage. eating Nibbley Pibbleys of your own color increases your length faster, and you grow the most after consuming yellow ones. Once your tail flashes, you've met the goal, and are ready to advance. Original release date: July 1990  

SNES 

Killer Instinct - "C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!" Rare's flashy and fast-paced fighting game, this Super Nintendo port of Killer Instinct sees much of the arcade version represented in 16-bit glory. Select between 10 fighters, each with unique fighting styles and take advantage of its dynamic combo system that allows players to chain special attacks together for big damage. Packed with combo counters, finishing moves, and ultra combos, achieve supreme victory and take down Ultratech. Original release date: August 1995

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs - A side-scrolling arcade beat 'em up, Battlemaniacs puts you in control of the anthropomorphic super toads Rash and Pimple as they fight against the forces of their nemesis, The Dark Queen, to rescue their friend Zitz and Michiko. Blending standard brawling with action platforming, smash your way through six stages of highly difficult and various hazards, with bonus stages to earn extra health and lives. Original release date: June 1993

Nintendo 64

Blast Corps - Rare's first game for the N64, it's up to the team to use heavy machinery to clear debris and obstructions from the path of a runaway nuclear missile carrier. Take control of dump trucks, bulldozers, a missile launching tricycle to help clear paths and safely transfer explosive crates while bridging support gaps. The difficulty and puzzle escalate the further you proceed. TIME TO GET MOVING!! Original release date: March 1997
