Season 2 of King of Fighters XV's rolls on, as announcements for its character roadmap continues. This latest trailer is more of an announcement of an announcement, as Hinako Shijo makes her return to KOF. A trained sumo wrestler, she debuted on the Women's Team in King of Fighters 2000.

As her mechanics are still likely being worked on for her inclusion, the trailer shows no gameplay footage. Historically, she's been a great pressure character with strong corner carry properties, if you got in close. Her slow walk speed and lack of rangey pokes made utilizing her strengths rather tricky. Hinako's launch is expected Winter of 2023.

Hinako is a kind girl with a very loyal personality and raised in high nobility. This will be her first appearance in a mainline game since King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match (cameos notwithstanding). While the developers were proud of her design, she was not a very popular character, due to the lack of interest in female sumo wrestling. With women's sumo wrestling fighting for recognition in Japan in recent years, Hinako's return (despite her small stature) can act as a means of garnering more attention towards it. 

King of Fighters XV is currently available for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PS4, and Windows.
