Hunter X Hunter: Nen Impact's Launch Roster Count Possibly Revealed At EVO Tokyo 2024

Published by Bushiroad and developed by tournament fighter veteran producers Eighting (Bloody Roar 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes), Hunter X Hunter: Nen Impact has its first official trailer reveal. It was announced during EVO Japan 2024, currently still going, as of this writing, and roughly 8 minutes of trial gameplay was showcased for the 3v3 fighter.

Based on what has been seen from this trial version of Hunter X Hunter's first fighting game, the six characters accessible are Gon Freeces, Killua Zoldyck, Kurapika, Leorio Paradinight, Issac Netero, and Hisoka. Phantom Troupe members Machi Komacine and Ovugin have also been confirmed. Mechanics have yet to be thoroughly detailed or explained, but the action bears similarities to many 3v3 fighting games like Dragonball FighterZ and Marvel vs Capcom, utilizing elimination tag and teammate assist features.

Based on the character select screen, there appears to be 16 slots, possibly an indicator that Nen Impact's launch Roster could be 16 characters for now. Fans on social media have already voiced concerns over Nen Impact's visuals and the in-game battle effects. While it's difficult to determine how far along in development this build of the game is, Hunter X Hunter: Nen Impact is also not a particularly high-budgeted game.

Getting back to the roster, for most Vs. style games, 16 characters as a base may be considered small. As mentioned, this has caused concern for a portion of the community. The aforementioned Dragonball FighterZ launched with 21 fighters, and while it isn't a tag-based fighting system, King of Fighters XV's beginning lineup was 39. Depending on how planning and testing goes, the smaller lineup could contribute to making each playable fighter as unique as possible, with a string of downloadable content additions to flesh out the roster.

Hunter X Hunter is a manga and anime created by Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of YuYu Hakusho. Serialized by Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump since 1998 and published in the United States by Viz Media, it follows four friends (Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio) paving their paths to become skilled Hunters for their own respective agendas in life, meeting allies and dangerous adversaries with deadly fighting skills, manipulated by the arts of Nen and Ren.

Hunter X Hunter: Nen Impact has been announced for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. No official release date is confirmed.
