IO Interactive States Next Hitman Game Will Be Put On Hiatus For Other Projects

Studio IO Interactive will be a busy brand in the coming months, so while a new installment in the Hitman series remains in the plans, it might not be for a while down the road. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, the Kane & Lynch developer spoke about what is on the horizon for the stealth/assassination action series. With other projects being worked on, Hitman will see some time on the back burner, according to IO Interactive CCO Christian Elverdam.

"Right now a major, major new Hitman game: that's a little bit on hiatus," Elverdam spoke, "as we're building another agent fantasy that's also taking up a lot of our time. "But obviously we'll come back to beloved Agent 47. He's still very much in the heart of this company."

Hitman may be on hold, but espionage action isn't resting for IOI, as the Copenhagen studio was tasked with developing a new James Bond game in 2020, currently titled Project 007, with the lore based on an original James Bond story. They're also working on a new RPG (working title is listed as "Project Fantasy"), in February. Hitman 3 was also recently renamed World of Assassination, serving as a conclusion to the game once IOI delved back into publishing the game themselves.

IOI Barcelona was established in April of 2021. This branching out was to help with the programming and development of their future games.
