Publisher and physical game distributor Limited Run Games hosted a games showcase, revealing that they will be releasing close to two dozen titles in the coming months. Along with some modern games, LRG will also be bringing back some platforming representatives from the mid and late 1990's, notably the news of a Gex Trilogy (courtesy of Square Enix) and TOMBA!, a 2.5D adventure game originally released for the PlayStation in 1997.
They will be working with series creator Tokuro Fujiwara on revitalizing the game with use of the Carbon Engine, Limited Run's home-built tool designed to make porting and emulating legacy content on modern platforms easier.
The Gex Trilogy, which will also be remade through Carbon Engine, follows the pop culture, entertainment-obsessed anthropomorphic gecko through parodies of media as he matches wits with series antagonist, Rez. Gex 2: Enter The Gecko, capitalizing off the renewed popularity of the films GoldenEye and Austin Powers, was the first venture into 3D platforming, and was met with fairly positive reviews at the time. The third and final game, 1999's Deep Cover Gecko, featured Baywatch actress and Playboy model Marliece Andrada in bluescreen full-motion video sequences. It'll be interesting to see if her likeness will be retained for the redistribution.
