Microsoft May Explore Putting Some Of Its First Party Games On Multiple Platforms

Fans will now have a new look as to how Microsoft intends to shape its 2024 for Xbox. While the grand acquisition of Activision Blizzard King dominated the news cycles for the holdings, developer, and publishing company. One of the stories involves the idea of bringing more of its exclusives to the competition. This information came way of the latest episode of the Nate the Hate podcast.

No specific title was named, but it's indicated that it was a piece of software that was critically acclaimed throughout 2023 and was in contention for "Game of the Year" considerations. It's highly speculated that the game in question could be Tango Gameworks' action rhythm game, Hi-Fi Rush, which took Best Audio Design at the 2023 Game Awards, and was nominated in five categories total.

“In the calendar year of 2024, Microsoft will bring one of their more acclaimed first-party games to a competitor’s system,” states the podcast. “The title I’m referring to was met with high critical acclaim. Fans loved it and it was in the game of the year conversation in the year that it was released.

I would definitely expect to see some Xbox titles run on the Switch or the Switch successor, and the PlayStation 5 hardware...I could see why a lot of the [Xbox fans] may be hellbent against it, but Microsoft's perspective, if you're bringing select games to multiplatform beyond PC, you're doing so because you see the quality of the IP and franchise. you want to expand its reach beyond that of the Xbox itself."

It's not the first time Xbox has dabbled in porting a lot of their first party published titles on multiple platforms. Cuphead being one of the most notable, it was an Xbox exclusive for nearly several years before finding its way to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 by 2019. other series like Ori and the Blind Forest and Minecraft saw their exclusivity dropped, while offering cross-platform play.

Xbox's mission statement aiming to be inclusive to their ecosystem, while porting highly demanded titles to Sony and Nintendo may not close any gaps in the perceived "console wars", but it's an effective way to make a lot of money. And if the speculated title ends up being Hi-Fi Rush, that would spell great news for a game that was considered a sleeper hit, following its quiet release.
