Microsoft Places Ban On 'Unauthorized' Third Party Xbox Controllers

It appears that Microsoft is cracking down on the use of unofficial third party controllers. According to a post in Resetera, a new update on Microsoft's support blog indicates that you will be met with an error code if you plug in Xbox compatible off-brand devices into your Xbox Series X and S consoles. There will be roughly two more weeks of use before the ban is implemented, as the post reads:

This means that one of the accessories you’re trying to connect was not manufactured by Microsoft or another licensed Xbox hardware partner.

Note From the moment you connect an unauthorized accessory and receive error code 0x82d60002, you’ll have two weeks to use the accessory, after which time it will then be blocked from use with the console. At that time, you’ll receive error code 0x82d60003. We encourage you to contact the store or manufacturer where you obtained the accessory to get help with returning it.

This could possibly mean a decline in sales of third party devices, while a jump in profits for Xbox's official controllers. Not to mention a quality assurance matter for manufacturers. This will also have some implications for fighting game fans who play on the Series X|S. According to a report from Engadget, Brook released a statement, indicating that their affected devices, the Wingman XB2 converter and XB Fighting Board, will be addressed.

Many fighting game enthusiasts enjoy using their fighting pads and arcade sticks, this may impact the community considerably by rendering these devices inaccessible, even though this means Xbox's attempt to crack down on cheating exploits found in Cronus and Titan devices, such as auto-aim passthroughs.
