New Joined Partnership Announced Between Konami and Bloober Team

There's more action from the Konami front, this latest bit being a rather curious, but much often speculated revelation after rumors had circulated for months on end, as Konami aims to place more focus back into game development. It had been hinted they were interested in reviving of several dormant franchises. According to Video Games Chronicle, news broke about Konami and Bloober Team signing a "strategic co-operation agreement" that looks to lead to the two companies working on games together. Looking like the Polish development crew will have a role in a new Silent Hill project.

With a history of dabbling in horror puzzle games like The Blair Witch and Layers Of fear, a franchise like Silent Hill is right within the staff's wheelhouse. The team's recently released The Medium (which will see a PlayStation 5 release September 3rd), Bloober Team's most ambitious and costly project to date, saw very sufficient sales after launch and turned a profit. Reviews were generally positive, along with some mixed takes regarding its pacing, so perhaps Konami saw promise in its success. Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka worked on The Medium, so the brands certainly intersect. According to the language, Bloober Team will be likely acting as consultants and developers to a certain capacity.

Konami spoke highly of the team in a different statement, saying they were "excited to work with Bloober Team and other highly regarded development partners to produce games from existing and new IPs.

“It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work", Bloober Team CEO Petr Babieno stated about the deal. "The fact that such a renowned company as Konami has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we [have] also joined the world leaders in gaming and become an equal partner for the leading players in this market.”

Konami has already outsourced a Japanese studio to work on a Silent Hill related project, it will be fascinating to see if another attempt at a remaster is in the works. It's encouraging to see the IP being shopped around.
