REPORT: PlayStation 5 Pro Leaks Reveal Specs And Projected Release Date

According to reports, it appears the PlayStation 5 leaks about the next incarnation of the current generation hardware were accurate. Based on news provided by The Verge, journalist Tom Warren states that Sony's in-house teams have been testing the PS5 Pro development kits, codenamed "Trinity".

With further information provided by InsiderGaming's Tom Henderson, the PlayStation 5 Pro's GPU is said to be three times faster than the current models. Along with the faster speeds, the new system will possess 67 teraflops 16-bit floating point calculations. This translates to 33.5 teraflops of single precision compute, giving it a 45% performance improvement over the base PS5.

That's very technically worded, but to put it in as best laymen's terms possible, ray tracing and performance will be three, maybe even four, times faster, with the possibility of 8K resolutions. The reporting also mentions PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, PlayStation's rumored machine learning image upscaling. The first party studios have been working with the third party devs getting their access in January. The targeted release date for this impressive-sounding machine is November 2024.

With slim models of the PlayStation 5 making it to retail this past holiday season, and those sales numbers, while solid, aren't doing enough to net Sony stronger profits for the next generation of hardware, does this run the risk of flooding their own market with such high demand?
