REPORT: PlayStation VR 2 Sales Are Off To A Pretty Bad Start

While the reception to the recently released PlayStation VR2 has been positive, with users and tech pundits giving it glowing reviews for its cutting edge software utilization better visuals and much improved controller, the virtual reality headset might've incurred some problems at retail; it's not selling well.

According to Bloomberg, back in March, the Sony Corps. Group had projected that the PSVR2 was projected to sell around or below 300,000 units in its first initial weeks. The official numbers haven't been released, but with a projection that low, things can't be positive in Sony's department. Their initial projection numbers were around 2,000,000 during the launch window.

With a lot of the hype surrounding its newest advancements and a PlayStation 5 install base of 35 million owners worldwide, this product is ending up being rather niche. Perhaps one of the biggest problems is PSVR2's outstanding $550.00(US) price point. Along with that, PlayStation 4 VR software isn't backwards compatible. Oculus Quest 2, its main competitor (I use the generously), has a user base of 5 million, and doesn't have to be tethered to any console.

One would expect to see a price drop come the holiday season to push more PSVR2 units into homes, so save that energy and currency. So far, the PlayStation VR2 may have been a tactical misfire for what the market wanted from it.
