RUMOR | Insider Predicts Nintendo Switch Successor Will Be An 'Iteration Rather Than A Revolution'

While anything official has yet to be announced and Nintendo has held their cards incredibly close to their chest, it has been widely speculated that the next major piece of hardware is expected to launch in 2024. The rumors have been circulating third party studios have been working with Nintendo's development kits for a good time now (based on reporting by VGC), and pundits have projected the processing power could be within the ballpark of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X-level games

According to a report by Video Games Chronicle, Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based game industry consultancy Kantan Games and someone who has been a credible source, believes Nintendo's next system could launch possibly up to a $400US price range, making it $100 more expensive than the original Nintendo Switch.

“The time is finally here for a Switch successor, even though I can say a ‘Pro’ model actually did exist and certain developers were already working with the dev kit,” Toto wrote in his prediction piece at GamesIndustry.biz. “I believe the next hardware will drop [in 2024] for $400. There is a high chance that games will cost more, too: $70.”

As reported earlier this year, backwards compatibility is strongly insured by Doug Bowser. And with a good part of the Switch's success being tied to portability, Nintendo is not dropping that aspect of its build.

“The next system is also likely to be an iteration rather than a revolution. Nintendo might add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch.

“And because there is Pokémon, and Pokémon is associated with handheld gaming, there is no way on earth Nintendo will drop the portability feature for their next big thing.”
