RUMOR: Walmart Plans To Discontinue Sales Of Physical Xbox Games In The New Year?

Following the story several days prior of major retailer Best Buy doing away with physical media (at the time, video games are not included), another huge big box store may have plans to leave behind the practice of selling physical Xbox games, based on some speculation. take this reporting with a grain of salt.

While no official confirmation has developed, the story began to garner traction when Josh Fairhurst, the CEO of Limited Run Games, responded in a quote post on social media site X/Twitter to the Best Buy reporting.

"I would expect to see this trend continue in 2024", Fairhurst posts. "I've heard rumblings that Wal-Mart is dropping physical Xbox games soon, and I have to imagine further cuts to physical gaming sections will be made as we get deeper into next year."

Other retailers have already begun to follow suit. Some Target locations throughout the United States greatly reduced, or stop selling physical music CDs and DVDs altogether, based on reporting from MediaPlayNews. The digital age is being ushered in quite swiftly, as the decline of physical sales have been paramount in recent years. The UK saw digital video games outselling hard copies nine to one in 2022.

As of this time, Walmart has not confirmed or denied these speculations.
