Silent Hill Ascension Blends Video Gaming With A Streaming Television Series

A plethora of Silent Hill software is planed for the upcoming months and/or years, headlined by the announcement of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, set to launch as a timed exclusive on the PlayStation 5. Konami has provided the first look at Silent Hill Ascension, an interactive series developed by Genvid Entertainment, the team behind The Walking Dead: The Last Mile.

The game will be a Massively Interactive Live Event (or MILE), where the decisions based on the viewing audience affects the events that play out and the actions of the characters.

Silent Hill Ascension follows the story of two families; the Hernandez family, whose rust belt town in Pennsylvania is plummeted into chaos as deaths shake the citizens. Meanwhile in Norway, the Johansen family is pulled apart after the mysterious passing of the patriarch and the presence of a cult channeling the darkest impulses makes survival perilous.

The series will be cloud streamed only once, and each day an episode airs, fans and viewers will be able to log in briefly to view puzzles, story content, and decisions. Episodes will be archived and the game can be played, being viewable in their canonical context.

Think of this like a D&D campaign that you're watching with everyone else, single shard, that you hop in and out of, and is being streamed live. We're the dungeon master, we have our main cast and creatures, and you can play as substantial a role in the story as you choose to dedicate your time to the community.

"The more you participate (solve puzzles, help characters in danger) the more you have influence to effect decisions", Jakub Novak speaks in a Resetera thread. "Those decisions will result in characters surviving or not surviving to the end, so while we're writing the campaign, we don't actually know how it will end because your participation is key. (This is conceptually the same as Walking Dead and Rival Peak, other projects we did, though Ascension is radically leveled up in visual fidelity, story, horror, etc. It just looks, sounds incredible.)"

Silent Hill Ascension premieres October 31st at 9pmET. Pre-registration is available on iPhone and Android devices. Weekly episodes will be available on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
