Sonic and Tails to Guest Star on OK KO Let's Be Heroes

Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog will be in for a treat. While Paramount's Sonic movie may be pushed back to Valentine's Day 2020, the Blue Bomber will make a surprising television appearance. Cartoon Network announced at San Diego Comic Con Sonic the Hedgehog will appear in an episode of the series OK K.O. Let's Be Heroes. Created by Ian Jones-Quartey, who also voices Radicles, and first airing in 2017, OK K.O. Let's Be Heroes follows the daily life of a young boy named K.O., the running joke is his age is somewhere between 6 to 11, who along with his teenage friends, the self-absorbed and brash alien Radicles and cool-headed ninja Enid, aims to grow as a hero while working at Gar's Bodega in the Lakewood Plaza, the "home base" of the protagonists.

In the clip provided, K.O. enthusiastically awaits any surprises the day may bring while his co-workers are lethargic and less motivated. During this, K.O. flashes two of Sonic's signature poses that fans may catch.

Many elements of OK K.O. Let's Be Heroes are heavily inspired by video game and anime culture, and references to many popular titles permeate throughout the series. This will also be Sonic's first animated appearance on television since 2017. His most recent cartoon series Sonic Boom ran for two seasons on Cartoon Network and Boomerang.

There is a coincidental bit of trivia. The antagonist of OK K.O., the evil inventor Lord Boxman, is voiced by Jim Cummings. Cummings also provided the voice of Dr. Robotnik in the 1993 animated Sonic the Hedgehog series, commonly known as Sonic SatAM to differentiate from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, which shared a different tone and universe while airing at the same time.

The Sonic crossover special will air August 4th at 4:45 ET & PT on Cartoon Network. It can also be viewed on Cartoon Network's app
