Since the glossy trailer dropped in August of 2018, there's been very little on the newsfront regarding the return of Streets of Rage 4. Developers LizardCube and Guard Crush Games have been rather quiet outside of some brief snippets of gameplay. Not even so much of a projected release date has been announced by publisher DotEmu. Recently, some new info has broke that may have longtime fans of Streets of Rage enthusiastic.
Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, who have worked on all of the original soundtracks in the trilogy will be returning to produce original music for the fourth entry. This, along with what looks to be an all-star cast of composers from the 90's, and the resume is impressive. Pianist Yoko Shimomura previously worked for Capcom and produced scores for Final Fight and Street Fighter II, as well as Kingdom Hearts. DJ and mixer Hideki Naganuma is known for his production on the Jet Set Radio games and a track on Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight. Lastly is Keiji Yamagishi, a former composer for Tecmo during the 8-bit era, most notably Ninja Gaiden.
Streets of Rage 4 will feature a modified engine that Guard Crush games utilized for their previous brawler game, Streets of Fury. SoR has been a largely revered and popular, yet dormant intellectual property under Sega's umbrella since Streets of Rage 3's release in 1994. The fourth game takes place ten years after the events of 3, Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding are set to return, while any other returning or new characters have yet to be revealed.
No information of what platforms Streets of Rage is set to be released has been provided as of this writing.
