New Fortnite Setting Will Allow Players To Hide 'Mean' And Confrontational Emotes

Video games are to provide leisure and a great time, and in the world of online multiplayer titles, traits like taunting may rub individuals the wrong way. For people who wish to maintain a game of Fortnite with good vibes, this new setting in the latest update will allow players to hide emotes that may be considered confrontational, based on a press release posted to Fortnite's community news section. This will go live April 23rd in the v29.30 update of the game.

...We’re adding a new “See Confrontational Emotes” setting so players can choose not to see certain Emotes that are sometimes used in confrontational ways. Players who choose this will see a player using the Emote standing still, with no Emote sound.

Laugh it Up Emote could be considered "toxic"

The emotes listed are:

  • Laugh It Up

  • Take the L

  • Whipcrack

  • Make It Plantain

This setting will make these emotes visible from friends in your party. It can be changed at any time, so the addition will make these emotes seen by either ANY play or nobody at all. Taunting has long been a facet of video games, going back to the ability to mock an opponent in fighting games like Art of Fighting and Darkstalkers. In today's hyper-competitive world, especially as something as culturally significant as Fortnite when it comes to streaming, emotions can run high or low and not everyone is as comfortable with public humiliation. And hey, it's not an outright ban, just a small quality of life adjustment for those who wish to indulge. Unfortunately, tea-bagging still exists
