Host Geoff Keighley Minds The Fans To Keep Expectations Low For The Summer Game Fest

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo going by the wayside, the Summer Game Fest has become the premiere showcase event for games software and entertainment. The upcoming event taking place at the end of the first week in June may be a considerably smaller event, compared to previous years, and television presenter/games journalist Geoff Keighley hopes to temper any heightened predictions or reveals ahead of the show.

Game Awards has a lot of usually big surprises - we're thankful for those - and big, new reveals. This Summer Game Fest is largely focused on announced stuff," Keighley stated during a Twitch Q&A. "There will be, definitely, new announcements," he said, "but the show is largely focused on, I think, existing games that have new updates for fans."

(Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake will not be ready for Summer Game Fest)

Keighley pointed out some of the projects that WON'T appear at Summer Game Fest:

  • - Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
  • - Judas
  • - Kingdom Hearts 4
  • - The Wolf Among Us 2
  • - Grand Theft Auto 6
  • - Beyond Good & Evil 2

Software likely to be there are Metaphor: ReFantazio, Dragonball: Sparking!Zero, and Monster Hunter Wilds

Given the recent trend of layoffs, along with major studios like Sony not announcing anything major until April of 2025, lots of heavy AAA projects just aren't going to be ready, or are too far early to showcase anything. It would actually be quite vital for the game community to keep an open perspective on not relying exclusively on giant blockbuster announcements to justify a presentation.

Summer Game Fest begins June 7th, starting at 2pmPT, 5pmET
