Suffice to say, the launch of Redfall did not go the way studio Arkane Austin or Microsoft had intended. With the Xbox platform seeing a dearth of sought-after software throughout 2023, Redfall, which had already seen lengthy delays following the complications from the Covid-19 pandemic and polish issues, was intended to fill the demand. The vampire-busting open world multiplayer was critically panned for its poor optimization and subpar challenge.
Head of Xbox Studios Matt Booty, in an interview with Axios, clarified the state of Arkane Austin (Dishonoered, Prey) following the less than satisfactory reception to a fairly hyped property.
“I feel accountable that we could have done a better job with Arkane,” Booty responds. “It was a miss, but how much of a miss? I want to support them to be able to keep working to deliver the game they had in mind.”
Fan speculation led many to believe this may put Arkane on the potential chopping block of consolidated development teams, but update patches are being rolled out in an effort to improve performance of Redfall.
Redfall is currently available via Game Pass. Can the game be salvaged?
