Monster Hunter Iceborne Director Announces Departure From Capcom

Monster Hunter Worlds' Iceborne expansion has been the icing on the cake for the latest entry in the Monster Hunter franchise. Selling 6.6 million copies as of September 2020, making it the sixth biggest selling Capcom game of all time. News has broke that the director of Iceborne, Daisuke Ichihara will be stepping away from Capcom after 17 years to take up a position with ILCA (I Love Computer Art), an animation and CGI model designing company. In an interview with CG World, Daisuke spoke about his decision:

"It's a one-time life. I want to create an organization that can realize the proposals of employees who have something to do. I myself am a mid-career employee, but I am growing this young organization with my own hands. I strongly want to come."

This is the most recent of several senior positions in Capcom that have seen departures. Back in August, producer and seemingly the spokesperson for Street Fighter, Yoshinori Ono announced his departure from Capcom after almost 30 years. In July, game designer Ryosuke Yoshida, who has worked on Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Generations, and Lost Planet, resigned from his position after 12 years and has opted to "go overseas and develop games for next-gen".

With the recent data breach that revealed the cutscenes and plot of Resident Evil Village, it leaked a great deal of information on Capcom's upcoming projects and future plans. Along with exposing names and emails of Capcom employees in US and Japan offices, it has been a trying 2020 for Capcom. Thankfully, their future looks solid with recent announcements of Ghosts N' Ghouls Resurrection, the Capcom Arcade Stadium for the Nintendo Switch, and the aforementioned next installment of Resident Evil.
