Phil Spencer Reverses Microsoft Decision To Take Away Employee Game Pass Subscriptions

In a based move that rights what would have been considered short-sighted and greedy, CEO of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer swoops in to correct an error. Reporting earlier in the week stated that internal plans were to discontinue the free subscriptions to Game Pass Ultimate that were granted to employees in 2024. This was a fantastic perk for Microsoft workers, nearly hanging in jeopardy.

This policy was implemented without consent from the CEO. Once it became news, much to the ire of many fans and employees alike, he addressed the matter, with an internal memo:

After looking into this more with the team, I just want to confirm that no change will be made to Game Pass availability in 2024. If you have access to the Game Pass offer today you will continue to have access. I appreciate the time to get up to speed and sorry for the questions and confusion created. And thanks for supporting Xbox.

Game Pass, since launching in 2019, has been one of the Xbox brand's crowning achievements, setting the standard for how a subscription-based video game platform could function and justify retail value for fans. In what's been a wave of ebbs and flows for Xbox, such as the faulty release of Redfall, a strong Games Showcase earlier this summer, then bookending matters with finally acquiring Activision Blizzard King, best to patch up any matter that could be an internal and public relations mess.
