Sony To Discontinue Twitter/X Integration On PlayStation

Matters have been rather topsy-turvy for Elon Musk and his handling of the social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter. Since purchasing, a surge of harmful content and suspicious behavior (impersonating brands, for instance) from bot accounts have sent many major advertisers jettisoning from the site. It now appears another function will be removed from Sony, as Playstation will be doing away with the ability to post content, such as video clips and screenshots, from your PlayStation consoles onto X. The following is an update from PlayStation:

"As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an account to do so)."

Microsoft made a decision similar to this back in April, following a dispute over Elon's asking price for the API. Like the functionality on Xbox, you will still be able to post screenshots, videos, and gameplay clips to X from the PlayStation app. Not all is terribly lost, just a different medium for access.

Back in 2019, Sony discontinued Facebook integration.
