The Biggest Take Away's From DC Fandome 2020

Here is a break down of some of the announcements from the DC Fandome event over the weekend. I will even have trailers if available. It was announced on August 19th that DC Fandome will in fact be split into two days. The first one was yesterday (Saturday August 22nd) and the second one will be some time in mid-Sept. No official date has been given just yet.

The Flash

While we have known for awhile now that WB was working on a Flash movie, there was a lot of speculation about what it was going to be about. It also didn't help that not one, but two actors who have previously played Batman were to appear in the movie (Ben Affleck & Michael Keaton). Rumor had it that it was going to be based on the 2011 Flashpoint detailing an alternate universe where Barry Allen has no powers, Wonder Woman has taken over the UK, and most of Western Europe has been sunk thanks to Aquaman. Oh and Bruce Wayne is dead, murdered in front of his parents.

The series went on for 61 issues, and crossed over with various different comics. This series fundamentally changed the DC universe. The events of this series relaunched DC into The New 52

Honestly, if you are a comic fan, read this series. It's amazing.

The series has been so important to DC comics that it has been adapted twice, once in the animated film "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" as well as the third season of the CW show "The Flash". Well, it was confirmed that the Flash movie will in fact be Flashpoint. Other than some concept art, we know nothing else.

Shazam!

Shazam is in fact getting a sequel titled "Shazam: Fury of the Gods". Sinbad is going to be in it. That is literally all we know.

Speaking of Shazam!

-Black Adam

We got a teaser for the newest DC movie Titled "Black Adam" and it's staring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

The movie is said to introduce the Justice Society of America for the first time. We don't know exactly which members, but the Rock teased that he will be fighting 4 superheroes in the movie. Black Adam starts production soon. Originally it was scheduled to release Dec. 22, 2021, but with production being shuffled around. I would imagine we won't see this until 2022.

Wonder Woman 1984

We got a new trailer for WW84, which is funny since it was supposed to have been released already. The movie has been delayed twice already, originally scheduled to come out June 5th, then August 15th, now Oct 2nd.

This new trailer introduces us to the main villain, The Cheetah, played by Kristen Wiig.

Watching this trailer, I learned something new. Wonder Woman can "web sling" using lightening... ok... I guess...

Suicide Squad

The first Suicide Squad movie was well.. awful. This time though, James Gunn is at the helm of the project. Gunn, who directed both Guardian's of the Galaxy movies, knows a thing or two about large ensemble casts. Which frankly was my issue with the first Suicide Squad movie. All of these characters, and only three got any actual character development.

I personally 100% trust James Gunn. I am not saying I am hyped for this movie, but I am not exactly going to hate on it.

The Batman

We got a teaser for "The Batman" and some confirmation on the story. It is going to be a "Year 2" story line where we are introduced to the Riddler (played by Paul Dano).

In fact, this movie has an amazing cast. Outside of the questionable decision of Pattinson as Batman (which I don't mind honestly), we have Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle (yes, that Selina Kyle), Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as Penguin. Mix all that with Matt Reeves directing and writing, and you could have an amazing movie.

The Batman is set to release Oct of 2021.

The Batman Spin-Off Series

On top of The Batman movie, we are also getting a spin-off series for HBO Max. The series, titled, "Gotham PD", will be set in year one of this universe. It will follow the Gotham police department as they see the new masked vigilante disrupt the crime filled streets of Gotham. The series is set to be written by Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) with Reeves producing. It's centered around one crooked Gotham PD cop who sees this new masked vigilante destroy everything around him. When talking about the series, Reeves was quoted as saying "The story is actually a battle for this soul.".

No date on this, or even a trailer. Just wanted to mention this. It seems that WB is going all in on Reeves' vision of The Batman

Speaking of HBO Max.

Justice League The Snyder Cut

We got a teaser for the Zack Snyder's cut of the Justice League. Set to Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", we have some new scenes that weren't in the original cut of the film. There was no release date given other than "2021", but we do know that it will air in four one hour parts.

Now it's time for some games!

I have already covered the newest Batman game, "Batman: Gotham Knights", which you can read right here

There is one more game that got announced at DC Fandome 2020, and it's kind of a big one.

The next game in the Arkham series is going to be "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League". The rather lengthy trailer shows off a bunch of characters, who we will get to play as. Rocksteady is calling it an "action-adventure shooter" and will support one- to four-player co-op. We are also not locked into a character, we will be able to jump around to different squadmates whenever we want.

It has been confirmed that this game has nothing to do with the previously announced "Gotham Knights" title as "Gotham Knights" is set in its own universe. The Suicide Squad game is in fact a sequel to the Arkham games universe.

The trailer does look amazing, however zero gameplay was shown. So take it for what it is. I do however like the little twist at the end.

I'm kinda over the whole "Superman is a villain" thing personally. Trailer is funny though.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is scheduled to be released some time in 2022 for the PC, PS5, and XS1.

Other smaller stuff that was announced.

Arrowverse

There is going to be more character crossovers for all of the CW Arrowverse shows and a trailer for the newest season of The Flash was revealed. It was also hinted that we may be seeing more DC movie crossovers in the Arrowverse. Nothing set in stone just yet.

Aquaman 2

A sequel to Aquaman was confirmed, and while details are scarce, it was confirmed at panel that it will be more serious in tone and we will be seeing new, never before seen worlds.

Titans

Season 3 of the WB show has been confirmed and will be getting more Batman characters. Red Hood, Commissioner Barbara Gordon, and Scarecrow are all set to make an appearance.

Sandman

Neil Gaiman has confirmed that the Netflix adaption will not be completely faithful to the source material, but has confirmed that the story does start in 1916. During a panel Gaiman was quoted as saying; "What we're doing with Netflix is saying, 'OK, It's still going to start in 1916, but the thing that happens in Sandman 1--the point the story starts--is not 1988, it's now.' And how does that change the story? What does that give us? what does that make us have to look at that we wouldn't have had to look at if we were setting it as a character piece? What is that going to do to the gender of characters...the nature of characters?".

That's it! I believe that is everything! Man a lot was talked about. All very exciting.

As always, this has been James with Game Fix. Game one everybody!
