Famicom Games & Game Share For The Switch?

Hey everybody! Two cool little new things you can now do with your Nintendo Switch after the 6.0 update.

Download Japaneses NES (Famicom) games

Why would you do this? Easy, the Famicom console had additional sound chips in the system, making the sound effects and the music to a lot of games sound a heck of a lot better over their NES counter parts. Take Legend of Zelda for example. The Famicom system had more instruments in the music, making the music much better over the NES counter-part. Also, Super Mario Bros 3 was way harder on the Famicom than it was on the NES. Nintendo dumbed down the game when they released it internationally. The most important though, the Japanese box arts are just plain freaking cooler than the American ones.

So how do you do this? Well, its really easy.

1) Create a new Nintendo account

2) When asked what region, select "Japan".

That's it! When you sign onto the account, you will log into the Japanese Eshop where you will be able to purchase games if you have the Yen.

Now to download the Famicom games.

1) Log into your newly created Japanese account

2) Select "Eshop" from the home screen

3) Download the "Family Computer" app from the eshop. (image on the left).

From here, make sure you log back into your original account, that has the Nintendo Online Subscription and bingo. You can now play the Famicom games. The list of games from the US and the Japanese are exactly the same for right now. However, since you have a Japanese Eshop account. Look around the Eshop. There are demos and games on their that haven't been released in the US. Maybe you will find something weird and cool to play.

Game Sharing

Well.. sorta...

This feature was just introduced with the 6.0 update on the Nintendo Switch. Its a little more complicated, but worth it. First off, your friend has to have their Nintendo account on your Switch. Now just follow the steps.

1) Go into the Eshop

2) When asked what account, select your friends account.

3) Go to his account (top right corner).

4) Select "redownload"

5) Pick any of the digital games and start your download.

So a few things to this. While cool, it does have some limitations. Firstly, you need to be on your friends account to access the game. Second, the console needs to be connected to the internet at all times in order to access a "non-primary account".

While its kind of a pain in the butt, its still kind of a cool little feature to have and something Nintendo never told us we could do.

Thats it for now! If I find any other cool stuff I will be sure to share it with you all.

As always, this has been James with Game Fix. Game on everybody!

This reminds me of the PSP. Great feature. Hopefully it's no matter to Nintendo.

This is one of the perks with being region free.
